About Us

photo of daveHi there, I’m Dave! Thanks so much for stopping by my website Millwork Guide!

I’ve always been interested in millwork and carpentry. I started working with wood when I was 6 years old, following my Dad around in his woodworking shed, making a mess and asking him 1000’s of questions! I built my own bed base when I was 12, and created lots of knick knacks as gifts for my family, including wooden picture frames, statues, baskets and even a rocking chair for my Nan.

I studied wood working throughout school and eventually dropped out to get my millworking and carpentry certificate. I worked as an apprentice for 3 years before opening my own carpentry business, and I’ve been relishing in wood working ever since!

I created this website because I wanted to give something back to fellow wood workers.

Woodworking has been my passion, and my escape, for as long as I can remember. Whenever I was feeling blue or upset, I would take myself to the shed and start creating something, and instantly my mind would be engaged and I’d forget about whatever had happened. I also love how you can express yourself through woodworking, and how you can create something that’s not only beautiful, but practical as well. I love how wooden objects can become keepsakes that are passed down from generation to generation.

I want to share the knowledge that I’ve gathered over the last 15+ years of working with wood. That’s why I created this website. From varnishes to power tools to millworking tips, I’ve tried to make this website as comprehensive and user friendly as possible. I provide my honest opinion on the best tools and products for any job, so that you can get great outcomes from your projects. I also go through the ways that millwork can be used to spruce up your home and garden, without breaking the bank.

I hope you enjoy reading this website as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together. If you have any questions or comments, please contact me here.

I’d love to hear from you even if you just want to share your woodworking stories!

All the best, Dave.
